Behind The Lens

Location

Took this picture in Stryskii park in Lviv, Ukraine.

Time

I don't remember much, but I had a really exhausting day at school so I decided to take a little walk afterwards and took my camera with me just in case I see anything cool. That turned out awesome, mainly because of the new technique I discovered.

Lighting

It was meant to be just a picture of a fallen leaf but every photo I took was a bit boring. Then something clicked and I thought it would be a good idea to turn on a flash. I looked at the image and everything was dark except the leaf and a little piece of wood. Later I read that there is a whole technique of using flashlights not only for night photography but also for taking portraits when the sun is shining too bright. So yeah, the lighting is quite unusual here.

Equipment

I used Sony A6000 camera with Sony 16-70/f4 lens.

Inspiration

When I went out I didn't have much inspiration but that leaf lying alone... Seemed so sadly romantic…

Editing

My flash wasn't powerful enough to create complete darkness around, so I had to remove some little white spots. That was the only edition I did.

In my camera bag

The equipment I take depends on what I want to capture. First setup is just my camera with 16-70/f4 lens which is perfect for traveling and hiking. Second option is a whole photo bag with different lenses for photography trips and events. Of course it would be awesome to have a whole bag with me all the time but that's just not possible and unreasonable. So mostly I have a camera and one or two lenses with me.

Feedback

My advice? Try to build a little community, for example I often take photos with my cousin. Sometimes it takes something really stupid or funny to take the picture so having somebody along is a good idea. But even if there is only you - go out and take pictures. It really is as simple as it sounds!
