Location
The Osprey and their young in a nest located at the Iroquois Locks along the St. Lawrence Seaway in OntarioTime
The photo was taken on July 28, 2023, around 4:00 pm. Sometimes it seems it is always dinner time for the young ospreys. Mama brought home a whole catfish for them to eat this time, and they sounded very hungry by the way they were yelling.Lighting
The location of the Osprey nest is a perfect spot. Standing on the hill nearby, you can directly look across to the nest. If you can wait until mid-afternoon the sun is behind you and it makes for a very nice picture with the warm glow of the sun on the nest.Equipment
The picture was shot on a tripod using my Nikon D600 and a Tamron 150-600 lens. Shot at F/6.3, shutter speed 1/1600, and an ISO of 800.Inspiration
Taking pictures of birds is such a peaceful experience for me that I try to get out and watch them fly and interact with their babies. When you can get a shot of them flying through the air, it makes me feel wonderful inside. Capturing an osprey bringing home dinner is always amazing to me but sometimes hard to get the shot.Editing
I shoot in raw so I normally just do basic processing in Photoshop for my images. In my camera bag
Lately, I have 2 camera bags with me and most of my lenses. I give one backpack to my husband and I take the other. The one that I carry has my Nikon D600 and my Tamron 600 lens. I want to be ready for the bird shots because most of the time you need the zoom lens to get up close and personal. I have the other lenses if I want to do some landscape or micro shots.Feedback
You just need a whole lot of patience and it helps to have good company around to chat with.
