Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a walk along the Illinois side of the Mississippi river near Keokuk, Iowa

Time

it was early afternoon on a very cold, gray day in January.

Lighting

the gray day helped ease the stress of getting the shadows without bright spots or unwanted reflections. My main focus was on the eye and eye color of this Eagle.

Equipment

My only DSLR at the time was used, my Nikon D 7000 and AF S 70-300 has proved to be a very competent combination for me.

Inspiration

This is an annual event for me, to search for the best Eagle Photos I can make during wither months when the Eagles congregate along this area of the river. Frozen waters everywhere except the down river side of the dam mean open water for the Eagles to find fish for dinner and plenty of trees for dinning, drying out and warming up from the cold water.

Editing

The only post processing of this raw file was to crop and adjust brightness before the conversion to jpeg

In my camera bag

D7000, D810, kit lens DX 18-105, AF S 70-300, 200-500 and a tripod.
