A cicada emerges from it's shell at night. I'm seeing these guys everywhere at the moment.
The cicada "husk" emerges from the ground, then scurries along to find the nearest tree or tall object. After climbing to a preferred height, it hooks it's claws into the tree bark. Very soon after, the cicada freshly emerges from its creepy alien skin.
It sits on the empty shell awhile, like in the picture while it's body and wings harden. Then it crawls higher up the tree and rests again, this time to change hue and develop its natural coloration.
Quite fascinating to watch in different stages.
