Behind The Lens

Location

While visiting my son, a student of the Duke University, I had an opportunity to take this photo inside the 210-foot (64meter) Duke Chapel of the Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. This gorgeous chapel can sit nearly 1,600 people. Its one-of-a kind active organ has 5,200 pipes, beautifully exposed over the main entrance.

Time

This was a chilly crisp Fall morning, right after the service. Entering the Chapel with the sound of the bells, floating in the area to the farthest corners of the campus, still in the ears and being exposed to the gorgeous interior was empowering.

Lighting

I really wanted the viewers to get immersed into the atmosphere of a gothic-style chapel: deemed light, seeping through the windows, coming down from the hanging lamps creating a somber, but surprisingly warm feeling of belonging to something great.

Equipment

The camera which was used was Nikon z5, hand-held, in a close to the floor position, which allowed to reflect the beauty of the structure to include the organ, mosaic windows, and the arches of the ceiling. No flash light was used.

Inspiration

I was always interested in the architecture, which combines the beauty, style, colour, and yet, is not cold.

Editing

No post- processing was involved.

In my camera bag

Nikon 5z and Canon 17 Rebel- both will produce gorgeous colours, but Nikon allows for a deeper depth of colour.

Feedback

Using the natural bright sun outside allows the light seep through the window and add a non-domineering colour to the overall palette de couloir, thus, creating a specific enchanting atmosphere.
