Pisew Falls provincial Park, is a national park in Manitoba. The drive is 74 km - 46 mi. south of Thompson on PTH 6. From the park entrance, one takes a brief walk down stairs to the roaring water falls, hidden among the spruce trees. The Grass River drops 13 m-42.7 ft., then changes direction and jets down through a gorge. Pisew Falls is known as 'Lynx River' among the Woodlands Cree and is part of the Grass River canoe route. It is a place of healing and reflection, for some.

My favorite times to capture images are dawn and dusk or during the sunset. This image was captured just after dinner or as we call it in the north, supper time. The time was approx 7:00 p.m. CST.Lighting
The light is natural however I experimented with a image editing program named IrfanView.Equipment

Over the past few years, I drove many trips with family and friends to Thompson and wanted to capture the beauty of the waterfalls. In the past I stopped for a rest at this spot however due to time constraints did not walk down the the falls. One day during a stop here in July 2017, I was inspired by the soothing sounds of the waterfalls. After waiting for the right time of day, I took the walk down the stairs to find this beautiful setting.Editing
IrfanView is a free program which I have used over the years and it offers various options to enhance, crop and edit photos with preset filters. The photo was cropped then the light was tweaked using the contrast and brightness options to showcase the beauty of fast running water in the Manitoba wilderness.In my camera bag

In the wilderness one must be prepared for encountering wildlife and extreme weather conditions. Check the weather conditions and forecast before leaving for your trip. More than once during my trips to northern Manitoba, the weather turned for the worst and often during the winter season (which is 3-5 months in length) I had to pull off the road due to a 'white-out.' Always travel with survival gear and protective cases when travelling North of the 56th in Manitoba Canada. Black and brown bears are common in most areas due to garbage left by tourists and can be dangerous in the Summer plus the Fall. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst conditions while exploring the Boreal forests of the great white north! And enjoy the experience!!
