Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Port Clinton, Ohio when I was out on a nightly boat right with my dad.

Time

This was around 8:00 pm on a Saturday. My dad and I just decided to take the boat out for a ride and the sunset that night happened to be incredibly beautiful.

Lighting

I was extremely lucky with this shot. It was one of those “right place, right time” sort of things.

Equipment

Oddly enough, this was taken on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Nothing fancy!

Inspiration

The year this was taken, was an extremely difficult year. My family was going through a lot of difficult times and I was spending a lot of time with my dad in Marblehead. That summer, he taught me how to dock our family boat so that we could take it out whenever we wanted. This night, there was something calming about it. I’ve always loved Sailboats and my dad knows that. I think he intentionally drove by it when he saw me taking pictures. For me, it memorialized an amazing summer we had together and how our bond grew closer as a father and daughter. I wouldn’t be who I am today without him.

Editing

I didn’t do much editing or processing with this at all. I ever so slightly bumped the saturation and vibrancy but that was it!

In my camera bag

I like simple. I usually have my camera and my 55 mm lens. I’m not a beginner by any means, but I’m definitely not a professional.

Feedback

Just take the pictures! Have fun with it. Photography doesn’t have to be something everyone views as beautiful. It can be something meant to hold a memory for yourself, just as this is for me and my dad.
