Wow, so excited to have won this award but so sad how low Lake Mead water is. In 1975 when I 1st went to the lake, the water was so deep, the top line I'm sure. Thank you ViewBug!

Location
Hoover Dam is right outside of Boulder City, Nevada. I used to swim and boat with friends back when the water levels were high. This image shows the tremendous amount of water long gone. I'm so shocked each time we travel to Lake Mead, Las Vegas, Nevada.Time
March 5, 2023 at approximately 12:30 pm was when I had pulled into a visitor's sightseeing area.Lighting
This image was taken by me with my iphone 12 Pro. The daylight was perfect yet the winds were truly cold and strong. Natural daylight was my only option in my mind for this shoot.Equipment
I have had to utilize my iphone 12 Pro for most of my travel images as of late. I am recuperating a reverse shoulder replacement. This surgery had me in physical therapy getting my range of motion and strength improved. I usually utilize my Canon 60 and a tripod. Both of which was still too heavy for me to use this day.Inspiration
Hoover Dam is located 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas, on the Nevada-Arizona border. There's so much controversy about the water level at Lake Mead and Boulder Dam due to change in our climate My family and I travel through and by both often on our road trips. Hoover Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the U.S. states of Nevada and Arizona. It was constructed between 1931 and 1936 during the Great Depression and was dedicated on September 30, 1935, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. There's so much history to this dam and yet we all take water for granted. Back when I first moved to Las Vegas in 1975 as teens, I spent a lot of time out there. Although I was never one to do the cliff diving, I witnessed many others. Today cliff diving would be totally crazy and life-threatening as the water level is so low.Editing
No post-processing was done on this image. I took a workshop once that suggested getting the shot right out of the camera. Save the post-processing for another day. One of my instructors disagreed with that and shared her thoughts that all images need sharpening. I felt this image was exactly the image I wanted. The real deal as even the sky was beautiful. In my camera bag
I usually take both my Canon 60 and Canon 50 but I have since lost my 50. Since buying my iphone 12Pro I always have a camera with me that I can lift with my new shoulder due to it being so light. I realize the iphone cameras can take some beautiful shots, I can't wait until I can grab my Canon 50 with my tripod and extra lens someday soon.Feedback
My advice is just stop and look around you. There is always something of value to document whether it's people, pets, scenery or even just a flower. I suggest everyone step out of your comfort zone and try different angles. Photography has changed my life. I started learning the 5 simple steps way too late in my life. I truly see something every day even in my own backyard that I want to capture to enjoy and share with others.
