Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my kitchen for a school project. I was experimenting with my strobes for the first time, and I LOVE how it turned out!

Time

It was late afternoon

Lighting

I used natural light coming through a window on the right with a diffuser, and the rest was lit with strobes

Equipment

I used a Canon 1300d on a basic tripod, and had one Neewer strobe to the left

Inspiration

It was for a school project, but I got to pick my subject, and since I’m a little bit of a foodie, I wanted to try my hand at something a little different than what I’m used to.

Editing

Yes! I mainly worked on the colors a little, but I did add some dodging and burning to make certain areas pop. Everything was done in Lightroom

In my camera bag

Usually two cameras, a wide angle lens, a telephoto lens, and a 24-55 lens. I recently got the R series 28-70 and it is by far my favorite. I didn’t have it when I took this photo though

Feedback

Experiment a lot, and pick a subject where you can add a little extra interest, whether it’s movement (like the sugar) or something else unique that will capture someone’s attention. Also pick something that you can work with over time, and won’t spoil after only a few minutes.
