Hurricane Ike was a powerful tropical cyclone that made landfall in Galveston Texas during the summer of 2008. It was the third Hurricane during this year to strike Texas. Even though it was only a Cat4, it caused extensive damage due to the with a sustained wind force of 110mph, enormous flooding due to it's record breaking storm surge, heavy rainfall, and tornadoes. 27,000 miles of electrical lines came down, causing many residents to be with out power for 2 weeks or more. The storm surge was the highest recorded since 1915. But... They Skies before the storm hit were amazing... colorful, and beautiful. They always are before a storm like this. I call it "The calm before the storm". We've already prepared, now we are just watching the magnificent power of the front of the storm coming in as the sun is setting.
