Location
This photo was taken on a small hill along side a, yet to be discovered, empty field. I love this little hill for a number of different shots. It allows me to stand above, below or level to my subjects. Bringing many flavors and creative options to a single location.Time
In my opinion, there are two best times of day for perfect lighting. First thing in the morning, while the sun is peaking it's rays over the mountain and an hour before it sets to sleep for the evening. This photo was captured an hour before the sun was finished for the day, casting enough light for a soft silhouette, but not casting harsh shadows along the mountainside.Lighting
Using my subject as a shield from the sun, I positioned myself facing the light. I set my camera to auto and covered the flash with the palm of my free hand. This allows some light to seep into the photo, bringing it to a partial silhouette state.Equipment
Canon Rebel, 18-55mm lens, use of partially covered flash.Inspiration
I love to follow my gut & experiment. The inspiration for this photo was the girl's graduation. I wanted a to encapsulate the feeling of graduating, moving on with life, finding her own path and that the future is wide open, waiting for her discovery.Editing
I removed 25 % of the color in the photo, keeping the flowers of her dress untouched. I blurred the outter edges bringing a softer appearance and completing the feeling I was hoping to achieve. In my camera bag
I always have a 18-200mm My camera bag (aka my purse) is always equip with my Canon T2i, an 18-55mm, 18-200mm lens & a wide angle for when I feel the mood.Feedback
Use your imagination and try to place yourself lower than your subject whenever possible.
