I took this photo in a friend's backyard.Time
The photo was shot under a shaded porch with three flash units.Lighting
Three Godox flash units were used on low power to get a fast flash duration. I used a paper photograph background behind the flower and hummingbird.Equipment
Nikon D850 camera with a Tamron 150 - 600 zoom lens. I used a tripod and three Godox flash units. Medium octa box front right and two AD 200ws flash from left and right as rim lights. My camera was set for F16 1/200 second and 400 ISO.Inspiration
I love seeing hummingbirds and wanted to get a photograph of them. My friend has a number of hummingbird feeders in his backyard. He placed a flower held by a third-hand clamp in front of a background. He put the flower under the feeder and talked over the holes in the feeder where the birds had been landing. He then used a needle loaded with sugar water in flowers to attract the hummingbirds.Editing
I used Photoshop to crop and curves to add contrast. In my camera bag
I have Nikon D850 and D7100 bodies. I use Nikon 50mm F1.4 Tamron 90mm macro Nikon 80 - 200 f2.8 Tamron 150 - 600 zoom. I have a number of Godox flash units.Feedback
Hummingbirds are a challenge to get sharp because they are small and fast. I found it easier to set up a small outdoor studio and bait them to hover in front of a background and flower. The birds land on a small branch close to the feeder and take turns feeding from the flower-filled with sugar water. Patience is your friend.
