Behind The Lens

Location

This cute tufted titmouse photo was photographed at Windsor Ontario‘s Ojibway park. The tufted titmouse has recently been named the official bird of Windsor, Ontario.

Time

This photo was captured in the early afternoon during a walk around the park. Ojibway park is one of Windsor‘s most frequented nature reserves.

Lighting

When I am photographing wildlife I like to make sure the sunlight or the available light from the sky is at my back so that the front of the bird is lit.

Equipment

I used the canon EOS 5D Mark two and the Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary lens, handheld.

Inspiration

I always look for song birds and new birds that I’ve ever photographed before when I walk to the park. That the titmouse was recently named Windsor Ontario’s official bird so I’m capturing more of those than usual lately.

In my camera bag

I normally carry a super telephoto lens for wildlife. I also carry a standard 50mm lens, a 150mm macro lens and a 70-200mm short telephoto for closer objects.

Feedback

The best tip I can give for photographing small birds and wildlife is to move slowly and never chase your subject. Find a place to plant yourself and let the wildlife come to you.
