Behind The Lens

Location

I'm lucky to live close to a small patch of woodland in a city, so whenever I have the chance I'm out and about looking for wildlife.

Time

It was around midday on a clear winter day.

Lighting

Even though it was a bright winter day, the sun was quite low and the robin was in the shadow, so I had to use a wide aperture which resulted in a nice background bokeh affect complimenting the colours of the robin.

Equipment

I used a Pentax K3 II camera with a Pentax 300mm lens, nothing else.

Inspiration

Nature is my inspiration, it's enough to look around you and you will always find something interesting going on.

Editing

Yes, I mainly use the Camera Raw filter in Photoshop to bring out all the details and colours of my photos.

In my camera bag

I can only afford one good telephoto lens so I don't take any other lenses with me. I use a shoulder strap and take hand held photos only. I always have extra battery with me and a cleaning cloth.

Feedback

Patience and observation is essential. I spend a lot of time just checking where certain birds tend to appear regularly and when the weather permits I just take my chances. A little bit of luck doesn't hurt either :)
