Location
This photo was taken in my uncle's backyard. We were helping him move when I saw this fern and thought that it would make a perfect photo.Time
This photo was taken late in the afternoon. It was early Autumn and the sky was overcast. The fading light and the stormy clouds created the perfect backdrop for a moody picture. I took the photo from underneath the leaf so that the sun would silhouette the fern.Lighting
I wanted a dark and moody picture to fit the weather and feel of the day. To do this I took the photo from underneath the leaf so that the clouded sky and silhouetted plant would have the best effect.Equipment
This was shot using my Oppo R9s. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I was just inspired by the feel of the moment. We were taking a break from moving when I saw the fern and decided the I wanted to capture both the emotion brought by the weather and the shape of the leaf.Editing
I like to limit the amount of processing that I do. On this photo I just blurred the background and heightened the contrast. In my camera bag
I am only a hobby photographer so the only equipment that I have is my phone. One day I would like to get a proper camera but not yet.Feedback
Capturing a moody photo like this is hard because you need to wait for a day that is overcast and moody but not too dark or too glary. There is also the problem of overcast skies bringing wind because of this the best time to take a photo like this is just before a storm breaks. When the wind completely dies just before it starts to poor.
