Behind The Lens

Location

The picture was taken at the model's house, during construction, when there were no internal walls yet.

Time

Once, on the Instagram of a familiar model, I saw a short video from her new apartment and I was impressed by how beautiful the light from the windows was. So I immediately offered her a shoot in her apartment, and one of the following weekend we met in her apartment. This picture was taken around noon on July 30.

Lighting

At noon, the sun shone directly through the window, but since it was high, then direct light did not fall on the model. But, due to the gray walls and floor, the light was scattered quite well, which made it possible to get a picture with such a soft light. In addition to the natural light from the window on the left, I used a Godox AD-300 flash with a 60cm octabox on the right to soften the shadows.

Equipment

I shot on a Sony A7iii with a Sony 85/1.8 lens - my favorite lens for portraits. Additional equipment: Godox - AD-300 flash and X-2T synchronizer, which, since the purchase in March, is always with me, on any shooting.

Inspiration

All my shots are inspired by my models. An amazing model, in an interesting space, wonderful light - what else do you need for a great shot?

Editing

In post-processing, little was done: slightly brightened the shadows and removed debris from the wall behind the model.

In my camera bag

When I go to a creative shoot, I always have in my backpack: a camera - Sony A7iii, three fixed lenses - 85 / 1.8, 50 / 1.4, 35 / 1.4 and a Godox AD-300 flash. In addition to equipment, I usually take with me various fabrics, beads, etc., which may come in handy when shooting. You can see one of these fabrics in the hands of the model. And since I shoot mostly girls, so in my backpack I always have: various hair ties, invisible hairpins and other women's accessories that can be very useful during shooting

Feedback

What can I advise for such shootings? If you have an interesting location with beautiful light in mind, you already have 40% of a successful shot. Find a great model - this will give another 50% of a successful shot. To get the remaining 10%, you only need to carefully look at how the model fits into this space, how the light falls on the model and guide the model so that the combination of space, light and model is the best.
