Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was shot at the Tybee Island pier a day after Hurricane Dorian passed by and the island reopened. Once I was back on the island, I took a walk along the beach with my camera to see what I could find. This was one of many great shots I took during that walk.

Time

I was able to get back on Tybee Island in the afternoon and had decided to take a walk a little after 5:30 in the evening. This photo was taken around 10 minutes later once I reached the pier. The sun was behind the clouds which gave it a dark feel.

Lighting

It was still cloudy even though the hurricane had passed which gave the natural light a somewhat dark feel.

Equipment

For this shot, I used a Canon EOS M50 with a Canon EF 28-135mm lens.

Inspiration

When I got back onto the island, I knew I wanted to get more shots of the pier. Before I had to leave the island when the hurricane was approaching, I had taken a few shots of the pier looking out into the ocean. When I got to the pier, I loved how the clouds and the natural light gave the view a dark feel looking back into the island.

Editing

I typically use Lightroom to work on photos. With this photo, I made a few adjustments with the exposure of the clouds and other aspects of the photo.

In my camera bag

I always pack my Canon 50mm and 24mm prime lenses and my 28mm-135mm. These lenses seem to be my go-to lenses. I always have some type of neutral density filter and a small tripod just in case. I normally shot on my Canon M50 but always have my D50 ready to go just in case.

Feedback

I always recommend taking your time and enjoy the moment. It is always worth the waiting for that perfect shot.
