Location
The photo was taken from the beach on Tybee Island, Georgia a few days before Hurricane Dorian went by the island. Even with the hurricane a few days away from passing by, the waves were rough, wind was gusty and the sky was filled with clouds which added to this photo to make it one of my favorites of the series.Time
It was interesting being on vacation on an island as a major hurricane was on its way. I remember getting up in the morning to walk along the beach looking to get some good photos before we had to drive inland. When I saw the pier, I knew I may get some great photos with the waves coming in. This photo was one from a series I took from under and on the side of the pier on September 2, 2019 at 8:00 am.Lighting
Since Hurricane Dorian was on its way, it was a very cloudy morning with a small amount of light coming from behind the clouds. This gave the scene a dark feel to it.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon M50 with a 15-45mm lens.Inspiration
This was my first trip to Tybee Island and our time was limited due to the Hurricane coming. I live in the Midwest, so I'm usually not around an ocean or beach too often. I love taking landscape photos and this gave me an opportunity to photograph in a different region. As I walked along the beach and saw the pier, I loved the how the clouds and the rough waves gave it a darker feel.Editing
I edit most of my photos in Adobe Lightroom. For this photo, I started with black and white preset that I created after watching several tutorials made by other photographers. From there I made a few adjustments with the exposure, contrast and a few other features until I saw what I liked. In my camera bag
Normally in my bag, I have my Canon M50 camera with a 15-45mm lens. Other lens in my bag include a Canon EF 28-135mm ultrasonic lens, EFS 55-250mm lens, Canon EF 50mm prime lens and a Canon EF 24mm prime lens. Along with a EF-EOSM adapter, I also have several different lens filters packed away to use.Feedback
I always recommend taking your time to get the shot you want in the end. Never be afraid to look for a different angle and most of all have fun with what you do.
