Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo from my front yard. I enjoy finding new things to photograph at home.

Time

This is a favorite image of mine. I was standing outside watching the yearly Starling Murmuration when this sweet loner found a resting place in front of the sunset.

Lighting

The lighting in this image was constructed without much help from me. The backlighting had everything to do with how this image turned out. I only helped it along. I cannot make nature beautiful. It is beautiful in its own right and I just capture it.

Equipment

This was captured using my Canon SX730 HS. No other equipment was in use at the time.

Inspiration

I was waiting for a silhouette photo opportunity. This little guy settled among the branches of a near by Bradford Pear Tree. He was in the perfect spot and I simply fell in love with the angle as it was perfect.

Editing

I elevated the exposure and the white balance and black levels. I then used my favorite black and white filter on the image.

In my camera bag

I always have my nifty fifty (50mm 1.4) lens, a 14-55mm lens, my camera body, and my point-and-shoot Canon SX730 HS for quick shots and behind the scenes photos. With those being the basis of the contents in my bag, I also include lens wipes, wet wipes, and hand sanitizer.

Feedback

Make sure that the light source is behind your subject! Follow the rule of thirds or completely center your subject in frame. Lastly, let nature be nature and have fun capturing it the way it is!
