Behind The Lens

Location

This image has been taken on a hiking-trip to Slovenia. Early morning we traversed a path, and when I looked back I had this view. Obviously had to stop and take the shot.

Time

It was - I think - around 6:15 am; we rose and had breakfast at 05:30. Early rise and shine because we had a long way to go that day. I had taken this route allready two times before, but this lake never registered before. It's litterally ±500 m. away from the cabin we spent the night in.

Lighting

Nothing special done; this image is 'as is'. Only some color corrections and dehazing in LightRoom.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nikon D750, with a 28/200 Nikon ED lense. Since I had to travel light I brought no tripod, this shot is handheld.

Inspiration

I am always intrigued by nature. Combine that with mirroring and the sof colors of sunrise.. I simply hád to take the shot. Afterward I had to catch up with the group, but it was totally worth it :)

Editing

As stated before, only some color corrections and dehazing done in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

Normally I have some fixed lenses in my bag; a 50mm and an 85 for instance, all for a D750 with batterygrip, flashlights et all - but for these trips I strip it all down to the bare D750 with a 28-200mm. I do weigh in a Manfrotto Monopod, it doubles as a walking stick. I might leave that one home next trips as well though - and change it for a real walking stick (much lighter) - since I rarely used the pod for the cam. So, the D750 with the 28-200 and a spare battery coupled with a peak design clip (for keeping the camera clipped to my backpack - ready for shooting) - basically that's it.

Feedback

Be there at the early hours. And don't hesitate to take the shot - if you are equipped for it or not. Usually it's a once in a lifetime opportunity. If you see the shot, take it. Next time around the parameters will be entirely different (trust me I've tried on many occasions).
