Behind The Lens

Location

This image i shot in my home studio in Kiev. It was unplanned picture in our set of beauty portraits. We were shooting some content for beauty blogger Julia Sablina (model on photo). I like that you can not tell where the photo was shot. That mystery gives a room for thoughts.

Time

We have been shooting all day long and this picture was taken in the middle of process. We were in a studio without wondows and direct sunlight so I use flashes.

Lighting

I like how this giant umbrella modifier helps me to maintain a feeling that this portrait was taken with natural light. In future i would use even softer modifier for that kind of shoots

Equipment

Surprisingly, but no macro lenses were used to make this photo. It was ordinary Kit Fujifilm Lense that goes with my X-T20. Its sharp enought and have good AF. So you don't need expencive gear to make a good photos

Inspiration

I adore tropical leaves and flowers and their use in beauty shoots. My favourite combination to create

Editing

Of course in Beauty Photography you NEED to retouch photos. But hopefully the model have great skin with just a few little flaws and ideal skin texture for shots like that. So it did not take much time to retouch this image

In my camera bag

I prefer to go on a photoshooting with one camera and one lense that i need for exact shooting. But if I do some creative shootings or lense tests, then Ill take as much as needed with me

Feedback

If you ever going to shoot Beauty - here is my advice to you. Choose model wisely. Look on her skin closely. If you have a chance - do a pre-shoot. Do not believe blindly in her instagram photos. Do not believe to selfies she sent you either. Everybody lies. Hehe joking. But if your first beauty model will have bad skin condition then you will be disappointed in this photography genre for a long time
