Location
This photo was taken in the Seminole State Forest. It's located around Orlando, FL and it shows the metal, floating dock that visitors can use to fish from.Time
This picture was taken on June 23, 2018 at approximately 1pm.Lighting
I used natural lighting from the sun as the time of day placed my drone just below and prevented any shadows from entering the shot.Equipment
I used the DJI Mavic Air drone. This was an HDR shot.Inspiration
The water is beautiful at this location. I knew if I could get an aerial setup, good lighting and positioned the drone properly, I could pull off the shot.Editing
I increased saturation and clarity in Photoshop. I did no crop as the drone placement worked great. In my camera bag
I bring the following with me on nature shoots: - Nikon D810 - DJI Mavic Air - DJI Osmo+ - Sony FDR-AX100 -Manfrotto TripodFeedback
Plan in advance. If you're looking to get into aerial photography, make Google Maps (Satellite) your best friend. Plan on where the sun will be and especially shadows. For this shot, it wasn't the typical sunrise/sunset time frame. Because I knew I had the sun directly above me, I could pull this shot off and avoid shadows, pull in the color of the water from the lake and keep highlights to a minimum by using an ND filter. It all comes down to planning.
