Location
This portrait was done in the Royal Gardens in Copenhagen on a cold January day.Time
Excellent question! I think it was later in the day. Scandinavian Winters get dark really early so I think it was done around 2-3pm. Fortunately, I had the glow from the snow to reflect some of the light back into her face.Lighting
I used all natural light. I love shooting in snow. Snow provides the most beautiful glow and gives off this very soft and flattering light. It's especially great since it can really help you shoot on darker Winter days.Equipment
I used my old Canon 5DII and my most beloved nifty fifty (50mm 1.4 lens)Inspiration
The model in the portrait has this gorgeous natural red hair. I have known her for a very long time and knew that she would be absolutely perfect for this vision I had in my head. I asked her to bring her hood and ultimately we ended up with a very Games of Thrones'y inspired portrait.Editing
Yes, I cleaned up her skin, did some dodge and burn and toned the image just a little bit. It was snowing when I shot the image, but not enough so I added a teeny bit of snow in post-processing.In my camera bag
I usually have my Canon 5DII, my Canon R, a 50mm 1.4 lens, a 85mm 1.8 lens and a 70-200mm lens. I have a couple of inexpensive speedlites with octagonal softbox adapters that I like to use too.Feedback
Know your location and your camera. I lived in Copenhagen at the time so I knew the garden very well. I often shot there so I knew where the light was coming from and when would be a good time. Keep it simple and don't overthink it......oh, and bring warm clothes!
