Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken while I was working for Deep Blue Images in the Cayman Islands. The model, Charlie, was a frequent client of ours.

Time

This was taken in the late morning around 11am.

Lighting

This was all done with natural light. To get the blue color in the water and for even light from this angle, I waited until the sun was higher in the sky than I usual would be not directly overhead.

Equipment

DJI Phanton 4 with Circular Polarizer / ND filter

Inspiration

I love the ocean. Much of my time in Cayman was spent photographing it. This photo was just all about capturing the color of water contrasted with the color of the beach. The model is there for the sense of scale.

Editing

I didn't do a lot to this photo. I increased the contrast a little bit and removed a couple people who were walking through the shot since this is a public beach.

In my camera bag

2x Canon 5d Mark IIIs, 16-24 f/2.8, 24-70 f/2.8, 70-200 f/2.8, and 50mm prime

Feedback

With drone photography in general, its all about paying attention to what the sun is doing and where you're light is coming from. When shooting moving waves, pay attention to shapes and lines that they are making.
