Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Moscow from Moskva River embankment

Time

It was two hours after midnight, when I arrived to the place. The sky was looking very dark, but there was a lot of light from the city buildings

Lighting

I was waiting for darkness to show how bright and colorful these buildings are looking in the night

Equipment

I used camera Nikon D5300 with Nikkor 18-105 dx lens. Camera was placed on a tripod to exclude vibrations while shooting at long exposure

Inspiration

I was looking for the place to show reflections of lights in the water far enough from these buildings, so I decided to shoot from the Moskva River embankment

Editing

I shooted three times in raw using different exposure settings in three directions, then I sew together shots in 3 hdr pictures and then combined it to get panorama

In my camera bag

First of all I put in my bag Nikon D5300. Usually, when Im searching for some cityscapes I take 18-105 and 70-300 zoom lenses with me, sometimes I take 35mm fix lens. I always use my tripod, because I like to take photos at night

Feedback

When you are looking for nightscapes it's useful to visit place at daytime first, so you can choose the place to take a shot (it's hard sometimes to walk around in the darkness with your equipment:) ). Try using tripod, lower ISO and use long exposure to take colorful and bright night photo
