I couldn't believe how lucky I was to capture both of these eagles together. It was one of my highlights.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at Diamond Point just outside of Sequim WA.

Time

If I recall correctly it was between 10:00AM and Noon.

Lighting

It was mid morning light if I recall correctly and the fog was burning off.

Equipment

I used my kit lens on my Canon Rebel t2i. It was my 55-250 mm lens. I didn't use a tripod or a flash. I was using manual mode and auto white balance.

Inspiration

I've seen eagles sit on these pylons more times than I can count but this was the first time I'd seen two at once. I looked out my in-law's window and raced down to the beach praying the entire way that they wouldn't fly away before I could capture them. They had been sharing a small animal and if you look closely at the image you can see some of the intestines actually hanging on the post just below the eagle on the taller post.

Editing

I try hard not to do much post processing to my images. I use Picassa Web and cropped this photo closer and adjusted the lighting a bit in addition to brightening the posts and eagles a bit.

In my camera bag

I always have my cell phone and my Canon Rebel. This was taken with my Rebel T2i.

Feedback

My advice is keep your eyes peeled to the world around you at all times. Don't hesitate to get the shot even if you feel it's not going to happen. Take chances. Do what you love and share it with those around you. If you don't get the shot the first time just keep trying there's bound to be another shot waiting for your eye to capture it. Nature photography is my love but unlike family portraits you don't get to ask your subjects to try it again and that's what I love about it.
