Location
I took this photo in my backyard in Orangevale, California.Time
I took this photo mid morning in May of 2016 as the sun was breaking through the morning clouds.Lighting
I wanted to highlight the robin and hoped I could capture some bokeh in the background. The light was still rather filtered since there were clouds in the sky.Equipment
I was practicing using my new Canon EOS Rebel T6i and I was using the 55-250mm kit lens. I didn't use a flash or tripod just natural light.Inspiration
I've found one of the best places to find a subject is in your own backyard or neighborhood. I like the idea of photographing in a specific area at different times of the day. Your subjects are always changing throughout the day and throughout the seasons. This robin captured my attention that morning because of how it perched on the fence. I liked the appearance of steps as the fence went down the hill.Editing
I did use Picassa Web for post-processing. I removed a telephone wire to reduce background noise. I typically do very little post-processing or editing other than cropping to my photos. I want the viewer to see exactly what I saw.In my camera bag
I have learned no matter what equipment I use to maximize my skills with it. I typically have my kit lenses and my Canon only. I'm a pretty simple gal.Feedback
My advice is for photographers new or old to always carry their camera with them. You never know when a moment is going to present itself. If I hadn't been playing around in my backyard I never would have seen or captured this little robin in this particular light. Also, try not to rush yourself or become frustrated. If the first attempt doesn't work, keep trying until you get it just how you envisioned.
