Location
This photo was taken at the World of Birds in Hautbay, Cape Town.Time
It was taken midmorning, round nine o'clock where the owl was perched on a branch watching my every move.Lighting
I find that morning light is very clear which favours crisp contrast.Equipment
I was using a compact digital camera, Nikon Coolpix P500, aperture set at 55/10, shutter speed at aprox 10/150, hand held.Inspiration
I was fascinated by the owl's big eyes that would stare with this hypnotic glare, seems like it was trying to read my mind. A very gracious and beautiful bird but a very dangerous if it decides to attack.Editing
I did some post-processing with Adobe Photoshop to strengthen the depth and exposure, tweaked on the gamma correction to display the original colours. In my camera bag
I travel light, usually I just have a tripod, the Nikon Coolpix and an extra battery.Feedback
Animals are very unpredictable, you need a lot of patients to capture the right moment. Remember today everything is digital so shoot as many pictures as you can, later you can delete unwanted photos which has its advantage over chemicals of the days gone by.
