Location
A lot of my macro photography is done around my house or in a large field behind our backyard. That's the really great thing about macro photography you don't need to go to exotic locations to get great photos of plants or insects.Time
I typically like to photograph macro subjects in early morning or late afternoon. I like using available light as much as possible for a more natural look.Lighting
Simple available late afternoon light under cloudy conditions.Equipment
Camera mounted to tripod with a macro lens. No flash.Inspiration
Fly's eyes are just so amazing with the way they look and fuction. It seems like you can never get close enough. Flies can be quite challenging as they typically don't like humans too close before flying away.Editing
Not a ton. Mainly global adjustments such as color, tone, saturation and contrast. Lastly adjusted sharpening and noise reduction. This image is also heavily cropped but holds up well as I nailed focus and there is no subject or camera movement visible. In my camera bag
It all depends on subject matter. I carry an Olympus Pen F, 2 pro lens the 12-40 and 40-150 and the 60mm macro lens along with various filters and 1.4 teleconverter.Feedback
Be patient, don't rush, be prepared with your settings beforehand. Learn to step away if you aren't getting the shots you want as frustration can kill creativity and drive.
