Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at home in our back yard while playing with bubbles. I am an amateur photographer and I'm always looking for chances to get a great shot.

Time

This photo was taken in the afternoon on a cloudy day. The clouds helped to diffuse the sunlight.

Lighting

The bright afternoon light let me use a fast shutter speed to capture this stop motion. The cloudy, overcast weather helped reduce harsh shadows that would usually be caused by direct afternoon sunlight.

Equipment

Nikon D7200 with a Nikon 105mm Macro lens. Handheld.

Inspiration

I wanted to practice taking photos of things is motion, so we broke out the bubbles to get the dog running and jumping, then began to shoot.

Editing

Minimal post processing in Adobe Lightroom to improve exposure.

In my camera bag

In my bag, I usually pack my Nikon 18-105mm DX lens as a good general purpose lens. I also carry a Nikon 105mm Macro prime for capturing sharp details. Finally I pack a Nikon 20-70mm lens.

Feedback

When you're looking to capture anything in motion, make sure you are using as fast a shutter speed as you can without compromising your exposure too much. Try to anticipate where you subject is going to be rather than following them. Finally, don't be afraid to click that shutter button a LOT. You'll want to get a lot of photos to uncover that diamond in the rough.
