One Spring day I was driving along a road near my house that backed up to a forest preserve. I happened to glance over since I am always on the lookout for photo opportunities, and I saw all of these birds high up in the trees. While I had my camera, I was not prepared with my other gear such as wading boots or a tripod. I parked my car across the street and walk over to the preserve by the side of the road. There isn't a concrete shoulder where I needed to be so it was either stand in the street or stand in the muddy marsh water. So there I was standing in the water trying to be as still as possible so as not to scare the birds way up high. I had my lens all the way out at 400mm while leaning against a tree for stability. I was able to get a clear shot through some branches just as the male bird was landing near the nest his female was in presumably protecting their potential offspring. I was in the right place at the right time to capture a beautiful moment in the cycle of life.
