This photo was made as part of a series for a photo competition a few years ago. We shot it at home in my living room.Time
At night after work. The images we're going to be shot indoors with flash anyway so time was not an issue.Lighting
The lighting was a simple one light setup using a speedlight and a brollybox. If I'm not mistaken, I was using the Nikon CLS system back then so it would've been my sb-900 triggered by the pop up flash on my D90.Equipment
Nikon SB-900 speedlight, Nikon D90, Sigma 24-70mm.Inspiration
It was just an exercise in incorporating some objects that I was given (in this case confetti) into a portrait session for Lily (which was the cohesive theme in the whole series). The mirror was an afterthought as originally, we didn't shoot with the mirror, just her pose, and I couldn't see her face.Editing
Just a simple black and white conversion in LightroomIn my camera bag
Nowadays it really depends on what I feel like doing. If I don't feel like doing anything elaborate, I pack my Fuji X100T with wide angle converter together with a radio controlled speedlight and a small roundflash light modifier. For more elaborate setups, I'll bring my Nikon D700 with a Godox RS600 battery powered monolight together with some choice prime lenses.Feedback
This is hard. I'd like to say make time out to shoot more and experiment constantly but I sometimes can't even find enough time in the day to shoot enough as this is a hobby for me and isn't my day job. Maybe one day...
