This shot was taken at the Castle Falls Provincial Park in Alberta, Canada.Time
In an attempt to practice using slow shutter speeds my wife and I took our cameras down to the falls after supper. We took many shots testing different aperture and shutter settings till we ended up with a couple favorites images like this one. It was about 8pm in late June.Lighting
With the sun setting over the hills that surround the falls it created shading that allowed for the longer shutter speeds. The slower shutters speeds is what we were looking for so that we could create the soft silk like water.Equipment
Camera is a Pentax K-50, Lens Pentax DA-L 18-55mm WR Tripod Vangaurd Alta Pro 263AT with a SBH-100 Ball Head and if memory servers me we also used a polarizing filer so we could increase the shutter time a touch moreInspiration
Having seen many examples using slow shutter speeds to create awesome waterscapes and Castle Falls having special meaning we wanted to create an image like this. Seeing this image now reminds us of the area and what it meaning it holds for us. There is some rather larger trout in the pool at the bottom left of the image that are our nemesis each fishing season. We catch and release in this beautiful river.Editing
As we were just starting with Lightroom when this was image taken there, was only minor adjustments to this image. The highlights were toned down and the shadows were lighted up. Saturation was bumped up just a bit to bring out the color in the water. In my camera bag
Pentax K-50 DSLR, Pentax DA 16-45mm, Pentax DA-L 18-55mm WR, Pentax F 50mm 1.7, Pentax DA 55-300mm, Pentax D FA 100mm Macro 2.8, Conkin filters, Graduated and ND all in a Roots DSLR backpack.Feedback
