Behind The Lens
Location
The photo was taken in the Bethesda Terrace Underpass in Central Park, New York.Time
It was taken at roughly 4.30pm in the afternoon when the sun was low and was shining down the steps. I was lucky as I was walking through with my son just at the right time of day!Lighting
I didn't need to do much to the lighting as the natural sun light worked well for me, but I decided to try this in black and white as well as color and I think they work equally well.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D700 with a 24-120 mm lens at 52 mm focal length. Hand held.Inspiration
As I was walking toward the steps from the 5th Avenue side I just saw the man bathed in light and thought - yes!Editing
I used silver Efex Pro to convert the image to black and white. In my camera bag
In this case, as I was on a city break I tend to just carry the camera with one lens. I choose the lens when I go out and hope for the best that I am not going to wish I had brought a different one!Feedback
If the light is on your side, its just a question of getting the right exposure. In this case it was a late winter sun with a nice glow so I chose a balance between depth of field and a fast enough shutter speed for sharpness, This was taken at f/9 at 1/200 sec on ISO 200
