Location
i took this picture at the model's hotel room, back in my hometown (Cali - Colombia).Time
It was almost sunset, around 6pmLighting
Lighting on this image was tricky. We didnt use strobes so we had to work with ambient light, in this case, the bathroom's light. Just had to find the right spot in exposure where everything was soft and pleasent.Equipment
I used a canon Xs, a borrowed Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens, hand held.Inspiration
For days astrid and i have been talking about doing a photoshoot but didnt know what we were going to do. The day before the photoshoot we decideded that our concept would be an actress life in her hotel room. So as soon as Astrid finished her last day of filming, we went to her hotel room and started getting things together. So as we began to shoot and moving around the room we ended in the bathroom, and i saw that little mirror so i thought it would look good to have a dual reflection of her. She played on her iphone an Edith Piaft song and got into character. From that point on, it was just shooting and capturing her expresions and emotions.Editing
Yes i did. Had to do some color corrections on the developing side, because of the light source it was way to warm. Afterwards in photoshoop i used some high end retouching techniques to clean up her skin and with Dodge and Burn, helped shadow and highlight transitions to look even better. Sharpness was the final process i used.In my camera bag
Now a days i carry 2 bodies in my bag: My old Canon t3i and my 7D. I've been following the philosophy of getting to know as much as you can your equipment, so ive been using my 50mm as my only lense for the last year. Two lens filters: Circular Polarized Filter and a Circular ND Filter.Feedback
When it comes to emotions and expresions, you CANT BE in a hurry!! You always have to understand whats going on, read your subject and try to feel the whole scene as well. Try to conect with your subject, if possible, even before you start to shoot. Figure out what he or she likes, expectations, tastes, etc etc. That will help you to understand your subject a lot better and eventually, you'll get some awesome shots from it.
