I took this picture on my bed.Time
Night time. I turned off the lights, shut the door and used only the light of the flash light bouncing off the book to light them up.Lighting
The lighting was minimal. No other light besides the flashlight. I just angled the book until it bounced enough light back into their faces to light enough for the picture.Equipment
I used a canon 7d, a Sigma 30mm 1.4 lens. That's it.Inspiration
My boys are only young for so long, and I wanted to capture them spending quality time together reading their book. It's a sweet moment and I love that I was able to get it.Editing
Very minimal. Made into a black and white, adjusted the exposure slightly and reduced a little noise. In my camera bag
A canon 7d, Canon 85 1.8, Sigma 30 1.4 and a canon 50 1.8.Feedback
Use a lens that will open wide. I shot this at f/1.4 to attempt to get in as much light as possible. The children just don't hold perfectly still, so while you can use a low shutter speed to allow for more light, it still has to be decently high to avoid blurring. I set it at a low speed, but high enough I felt comfortable I'd avoid any movement distractions. I then pushed my ISO high enough to let in some light without making it super noisy.
