Behind The Lens
Location
I took the photos in a small village in Vietnam, in Quang-Nam Province. Here, the people are farmers on white sand. The passing of time and wear of the weather is shown on their skins.Time
This photo was taken about 2 hours before dusk in an outdoor setting, just outside these people's house.Lighting
There wasn't any sunlight during the hours of this photo. The glow of the clouds and the green mildew from the wall that provides the lighting and toning for the photo.Equipment
I was using a Canon XTi (400D) with Canon 50mm f/1.8 II. The photo was taken handheld.Inspiration
Visiting my father hometown, I wanted to document the people who has lived here though time. These people has been in touched with the land, being the ones with the land. The history of the land is folded within their skin and wrinkles. Yet their happiness is shown through of all the passing of time. It was just the simple happiness that I wanted to share with the audience.Editing
I took this photo in RAW and processed it via Lightroom to decrease the highlights, increased the contrasts, and enhanced saturation. In my camera bag
I usually pack my Canon 6D with my Canon 24-105mm f/4 lens. When I travel a little bit heavier, then I bring my Canon 50 mm and 180mm with flash. Usually because I always have my camera with me in my backpack, so I travel pretty light with one camera, one lens.Feedback
When capturing the people of the local land, please trying to understand them and capture them in their natural environment as best as you can. It is very important not to remove them from their natural environment if you want to tell the truth of a story.
