Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a friends place near Drayton Valley Alberta. This 'Doc', my boyfriends horse.

Time

This was late afternoon during the winter, with snow on the ground.

Lighting

I was standing facing the west, where Doc was playing and running. This created the backlit effect, and made the snow sparkle as he kicked it up.

Equipment

This was taken with an old standy pocket size Nikon Coolpix S9100, 4.5-81 mm 1:35-5.9 built in zoom. It's a camera I still often carry when I am hiking, or fishing because of its compact size and great photos.

Inspiration

We were getting Doc to play. He would run and buck if you would stand and wave your arms. I took muliptle photos of Docs several times when he would do this for us. This was one of many I took on this winter day.

Editing

I liked all of things about this photo...the snow being kicked up, the lighting, the three feet in the air. Unfortunately the photo wasn't perfectly in focus. So I played around with some filter effects post processing, and applied this Vintage effect. It adds a whole new dimension to the photo, and has created a lot of drama.

In my camera bag

I carry two or three cameras. One will be either a Nikon D5300 or D7000 with an 18-105 mm lens, as well as a Nikon Coolpic B700 with 60X wide optical zoom, and often the Nikon S9100. I also carry from time to time, a Sigma 150-600mm and Tripod with ball head.

Feedback

Take a chance...take that photo, and then see where it leads you. I do not routinely use heavy filter effects, however, sometimes it can lead to a novel image.
