Behind The Lens

Location

This was shot while we were on vacation in the Northern Territory of Australia. We were on a hosted walking tour of the local indigenous peoples ancestral land, which included circumnavigating Ulu?u, allowing us the opportunity to shoot the unique nature which surrounds it. (we respected our hosts requests not to shoot in certain sacred areas)

Time

We set off in complete darkness, arriving at the site at sunrise so we could take advantage of the unique colours that reflect the minerals in the stone. This particular shot was taken at around 6:30AM

Lighting

The natural morning light if the Northern Territory is notably different from the haze of Sydney.

Equipment

An ancient handheld iPhoto SE I’m still using an iPhone to take photos but I would love to buy some gear and learn more about photography.

Inspiration

It was one of many taken that morning as it is hard not to be inspired by the natural beauty and serenity of Uluru.

Editing

I increased the saturation levels and decreased the exposure using the basic software on my iPhone.

In my camera bag

Just my iPhone and a mars bar..

Feedback

I’ve learned to take my time and plan the shot in my mind before getting into position but I am an amateur with an iPhone so the only advice I can give is that photography is a great creative outlet allowing virtually anyone to express their own unique, individual style so my advice is to shoot the things that reflect who you are and what you feel.
