Behind The Lens

Location

Taken at a local grass track event in Worcestershire with my grandsons. I'm just a hobbyist but like to try & expand and challenge myself when I get the opportunity. The organisers at the event have their own photographers but I noticed and opportunity by standing at the curve of the track. The riders churned up as they turned in. I waited for one team to go past which churned the dirt and sent it flying and with the following team behind the dirt shower. I had to wait for about an hour to get this shot as I wanted to show the its wasn't just a rider going round and round

Time

This was late morning!

Lighting

Rather a dull day but no rain so lucky!

Equipment

Canon old EOS 700D .. Canon Lens 70-300mm handheld. ISO 400, 1/2000 sec . f/5.6 at 225mm

Inspiration

I just like to challenge myself. I suffer with short term memory so camera setting are a challenge each time I venture out. Nevertheless I was lucky that I got this image but it did take countless attempts, I was pleased with the shot.

Editing

I did crop and up the contrast somewhat. I do not have much in the way of post-processing as cost is important being a pensioner. I do have Abode Photoshop Express which is free, it does for me.

In my camera bag

I normal carry a couple of canon lens, 50mm. 70-300mm my trusty EFS 18-135mm and tucked in my bag my EFS 10-22mm, a few filters and the normal cleaning items. And in the boot a tripod too.

Feedback

Pick your spot, don't be afraid to ask the track guys, who are a mind of great advice and help. If like me, its try, try, and try again, my panning got better as the day went on. Be aware of the speed that these guys and galls are prepared to go, so pick your shutter speed I found that for this shot 1/2000 was the best. Others will no doubt have the ability to use a slower speed. It depends what you want to achieve.
