Behind The Lens

Location

This shoot took place out in a very popular neighborhood in Kansas City called "The West Bottoms". Frequently you will see photographers out and about in this area taking Senior, family and fashion portraits.

Time

We tried to time our shoot around "golden hour" so that we could get that beautifully glowing evening light.

Lighting

This photo was all natural light with no reflectors but some light did bounce off of the cement below.

Equipment

Nikon D7100 85MM Nikkor lens

Inspiration

I love to try to include an interesting perspective in my photos and this fence really incorporated that into this portrait. The street art behind the subject gave a pretty color of soft bokeh.

Editing

I usually do some hand edits in photoshop.

In my camera bag

Generally, I try to bring fun props to a photo session with seniors. This session we brought a confetti cannon and pink smoke bombs. It is always fun to work with seniors because they are willing to try just about anything.

Feedback

I am obsessed with the subject and their eyes, I want to have a connection so make sure to direct your subject so they feel comfortable with you and you get the connection in your image that you are looking for.
