Hi Jordi, At the behest let me thank you and viewbug team for selecting my photograph to be featured. This photo of Model Oan, featured in "oan-Stunning Asian beauty" is one of my favorite images and was made by me at an open air photoshoot event at Pluit Lake park in North Jakarta. I am a student of NYIP and Sue Bryce institute of fashion photography and was still in my early stages of my learning curve yet to understand clearly more about bokeh, blurring the background and depth of field. It was the stunning beauty of this young engineer model that made me capture her portrait shot.Time
I remember it was a busy morning travelling about 30kms to be at Pluit Park. It was a beautiful locale. After the preliminary discussions and make up job I started with a couple of test shots with my first DSLR Nikon D3100. Nikon 3100 is the beginner level camera but with easy dials. I had already been capturing portraits and headshots but still with my first camera but had a few good lenses. I took this shot at mid morning at 11.07AM. It was slightly cloudy but the light was perfect, a bit towards harsher side but that allowed me to push down the ISO to minimum.Lighting
Oan is a cheerful and bright looking beautiful model, the mid morning light complemented her tan looks and the mood during the shoot. It was slightly cloudy but the light was perfect, a bit towards harsher side but that allowed me to keep a low ISO of 100. but since the it was more like a top lit scene with mid day casting a shadow from the top downwards on the neck and nose, hence decided to use a on camera flash of Nikon D3100 as a fill flash which gave such evenly lighted portrait shot. I used an exposure compensation of -3.0EV. EXIF: SS 1/200 and aperture F/6.3, ISO 100, Focal length 70mm, exposure compensation : -3.0 EVEquipment
Its interesting to note that I had used the trusted Nikon camera. It was Nikon D3100 with a Tamron 18-250mm wide- tele-lens. I decided to use this lens for the versatility to shoot at any given circumstance, either on the stage, as a group or as a single model portrait. I did not use any Tripod because the event involved multiple model shoots in the open air park setup requiring quick adjustments for the scene.Inspiration
Oan with her long hair with curls over her shoulders and a lovely nose stud and a large ear-ring combined with her tan was looking amazing in the white tops. the beautiful looks combined with the bright day inspired me to click about 6-8 shots in various poses. although the surrounding was busy, we had to wait and adjust for the crowd to give space thus avoiding a crowded background although we could still see people in the background. I was still at the time of clicking this photo, not very familiar of playing with depth of field to blur the background.Editing
None, I had not done any post processing except a bit of cropping. In my camera bag
I usually pack my photographic kit depending on the event/ theme. For this particular shoot I had packed my only camera which I possessed at that time which was my trusted Nikon D3100 with a on body flash. I had carried two lenses; Nikkor 35mm , f:1.8 lens and my Tamron 18-250mm; 3.5-6.3G lens. However, now I have upgraded and my bag includes as per my professional requirement to my trusted Nikon D500 body and additionally an 85mm, 1.8G Nikkor lens alongwith my Tamron 18-250mm and Nikkor 300mm tele-lensFeedback
I would like to suggest to my fellow photographers, more than the equipment It is the composition and light which leads one to the final result. shoot eye level or low upward while on one knee, use a focal length to fill the frame. Keep an eye on the histogram to fine tune the exposure and adjust accordingly. Try a few different poses and make sure the hair, lovely eyes and finer features like the ear ring and nose stud are well captured and adds to the beauty of the image. Talk with the model and try to keep the mood light and put them at ease. It will definitely give excellent results I still cherish this capture of mine as one of the better shots. I would like to thank Jordi and Viewbug team once again. Stay safe I would like to appreciate and thank the viewbug team for their choice in shortlisting this Photograph of Model Oan to give a chance to be featured. This gives me a tremendous morale boost and encourage me to improve further and try newer techniques to share better shots with my fellow photographers and Viewbug.
