Location
This shot was taken beside the TransCanada highway just west of Calgary Alberta Canada. There is a pull over off the highway beside Lac Des Arc. The cement plant is across the lake.Time
The shot was taken about 11:30pm. It was a night with no wind so the lake was a sheet of glass.Lighting
Because this shot was taken about 60 miles outside of the major cities, there was almost no light pollution.Equipment
The exposure was about 30 seconds so a tripod and remote shutter release are a necessity to reduce camera vibration. I used my iPhone's stopwatch feature to time the exposure. I use a Nikon D7100 with a 18-140 zoom lens. I used the widest angle on the lens to give me the widest viewInspiration
I have wanted to take a picture of some kind of industry at night with a reflection and being only an hour away from where I live, this was perfect. Several of us went into Banff to shoot some night time exposures and the cement plant is on the way back to Calgary.Editing
I use a program called Luminar by Skylum to brighten the highlights. But the picture turned out so well right out of the camera, that I had very little post processing to do.In my camera bag
I have a Nikon D7100 with a 18-140 F3.5-5.6 Nikkor lense, 70-300 F4.5-5.6 Nikkor Lense and a 50mm F2 Nikkor lense. As well I have remote shutter release, 10stop Neutral density filter and an extra battery.Feedback
To capture a similar shot, a tripod is a necessity along with a remote shutter release. Try an F8 aperture and an ISO of 400.
