Location
This photo was taken in November 2015 whilst on a 1000 mile road trip around Iceland. The plane wreck is quite famous and has been there since about 1973, it is around 3km off road and luckily I was able to drive there, it is only accessible via foot now. The location is on the south coast of Iceland.Time
This was taken later in the afternoon, the weather was shocking and I had to be very patient with a plastic bag over my gear waiting for a break to take this long exposure.Lighting
The lighting is all natural.Equipment
This was taken with a Canon 5D Mk3 and a 24mm TS-E lens, I used a heavy duty Manfrotto tripod and a Lee Stopper.Inspiration
I was inspired to take this by the genius that is Karl Taylor. In one of his tutorial DVD's he visited Iceland and whilst there he did a model shoot at this location. I was transfixed by the plane and just knew that one day I had to see it for myself.Editing
Processing done in Lightroom and a few tweaks using Nik Efex Pro.In my camera bag
These days the bulk of my photography is done using the Fuji XT2 with a selection of lenses (14mm, 16-55mm, 23mm, 56mm, 100-400mm). Will always own a Canon though because I could not get rid of my tilt-shift or fish eye lenses.Feedback
Tricky to access this place now if you are carrying all of your gear on foot. If you are lucky enough to make it there, please be respectful and don't climb all over the plane like some people insist on doing. Biggest tip, take something to protect your set up e.g. a strong plastic bag, the weather can change very quickly and there is nowhere to shelter.
