Location
I took this photo at horsey gap on the Norfolk coastTime
It was around 7am on a Saturday morning in April.Lighting
We missed the golden hour but the reflection on the water made for some good contrast and the shadow from the seal added another element.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon d7000, a tamron 70-300 f4 and a benro tripodInspiration
It was a cold morning a due to missing the golden hour I wasn’t exspecting much from the shoot. As I walked down the beach I saw a pack of seals. My intention for the morning was a sunrise photo but due to missing the golden hour I had to change it up a little. The seal was one of meany, but it was the only one that was on its own. The light looked good and the composition looked spot on. The seal was laying down when I went to take the photo. As I kneeled down and lined up the shot, half pressed the shutter, the seal popped its head up a raised its hand as if to “say hi” it was a moment I will never forget, a moment between man a beast, a moment I will never be able to replicate again.Editing
I used lightroom but didn’t do all that much to the photo. I sorted the lens correction, white balance, added a touch of vignetting and a little contrast. In my camera bag
Since the shoot I have sold the Tamron 70-300 f4 and replaced it for the Tamron 70-200 f2 G2 My other lens is the sigma 17-70 f2.8 I have a benro tripod and I use a Nikon D7000Feedback
Don’t be put off by not getting what you set out for! Always be optimistic and open minded when out on a shoot and you never know maybe you’ll have some Devine intervention to :)
