Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from the rear platform of a caboose on the right track. The two trains are photo freights on the Nevada Northern Railway. We are at Lavon siding on the High Line. #93 is being blown down, that is a valve is opened at the mud ring of the firebox and accumulated sludge is blown out of the boiler.

Time

Judging from the shadows, this image was taken in the late afternoon. Despite an overcast, the light was particularly nice.

Photo was taken with a 4x5 Pacemaker Speed Graphic, 162 mm Graphex Lens, hand held. Grafmatic six shot film holder, Exposure by the zone system, Tri-x developed in FG7.

This is from a scan of the negative, post processed in Photoshop.

In my camera bag

On this day I had two Speed Graphics, a bunch of Grafmatic film holders and a Pentax one degree spot meter.
