Location
This photo is shot at Hooker Lake, at the foot of New Zealand's highest mountain, Aoraki / Mt Cook. Somewhere on the East bank of the lake.Time
Early! Sunrise was about 7am I think from memory.Lighting
Loved the snow, the clouds looked good but not fast moving so used some filters for a nice effectEquipment
Shot with a Sirui tripod, Lee Big stopper, on a canon 16-35f4L and Sony A7r setup.Inspiration
I've shot Hooker lake many times but the opportunity to shoot with snow cover is rare. I wanted something different to the usual hooker lake shot so went in search of a new, different foreground. A bad choice of footwear meant I had bad blisters so I didnt want to go far but ended up an extra half hour down the side of the lake over rough icy terrain. I spotted the Spaniard and thought it would be cool, they are tough spiky plants that can remain pretty stable in wind so good for long exposures. What really set the scene off for me was the little bit of foliage lower left, for me this is key to the whole shot.Editing
Yep - always process! Its part of the deal now.Adobe Camera Raw and potatoshop, white balance, levels, luminosity masks ( thanks Lumenzia) etc.In my camera bag
Hmm quite a bit.. Sony a7r, canon 6d, 16-35, Irix 15/2.4, sigma 50 art, Novoflex VR slim, A huge set of lee filters.Feedback
Work the foreground shoot wide angle, nail exposure and focus!
