Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken in a basement of a house temporarily transformed into a studio. I had the opportunity to rent the whole basement including the flash heads and mods for an afternoon.

Time

It happened in the middle of the afternoon.

Lighting

The lighting if fully artificial. It has been produced with one main light on model's right hand side and one reflector for light filling on the other side.

Equipment

Two years back, in a studio, this image was taken handheld with a Canon 40D mounted with a Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD.

Inspiration

This photo shoot concept was "Let's get scared". Obviously, the shooting happened just one day before Halloween so it helped to find that concept.

Editing

This shot was taken on a plain neutral grey background with flashes. The final image is a result of a couple of hours of retouching and photo manipulation. The background and shadows were added to the image, color tones and light have been altered as well.

In my camera bag

These days, I do not do studio photography much. I mostly shoot landscape and cityscape while I travel. In a Mindshift Gear rotation180° Panorama 22L backpack, I always carry a Canon 6D mounted with a Canon EF 17-40 f/4L USM, a Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD and finally a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM. On top of that, I strap to the back of the backpack a Really Right Stuff TVC23 tripod with the BH40 ballhead. When I feel more patient and powerfull, I also carry the Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro Photo lens complete with the Macro Ring Lite MR-14EX... because I sometimes feel the need to discover and explore the world of insects.

Feedback

To be able to produce a retouched/manipulated images like this one, I believe one have to try many different experimentations with image editing softwares like Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. I personnaly spent countless of hours at retouching all sort of images as a past time. You get to develop tricks and a work flow that make you work faster and more efficiently in what you want to achieve.
