Location
This photograph was taken in Mount Ephraim Gardens, the base location of Joe's Bows Company who proudly asked me to photograph images their wedding advertisement. After previously working with both wildlife and models this was a great opportunity to combine the two.Time
After battling with the unpredictability of nature and wildlife we managed to capture some great shots around 3oclock just as the sun was lowering and the birds were settling.Lighting
There's nothing wrong with using natural light to capture your subject under, at around 3 o'clock this was low enough to provide shade and light behind clouds and tree's giving the photographer plenty to play with.Equipment
Sometimes minimal is best, and when the land consists of 800acres all you need is yourself, your Canon and your subject!Inspiration
After taking photographs of these beautiful birds I was able to build a great relationship with the business- one which allowed me to explore creatively whilst the business thought productively. Together we combined the two and had a great day flying the beautiful birds, preparing our model bride and capturing the interactions between the two. For me this was key, although yes the posed photographs were beautiful, emotion was key! The connection between bird and handler, bride and beauty.Editing
For the purpose of advertisement of the business, post production editing was needed, to remove the jesses or neaten up a feather. And for the makeup artist's advertisement to correct and blemishes, To make both birds look their best so to speak! In colour this photograph was very busy and overpowering, placing focus on the location and season rather than the foreground. By removing this colour it added a depth of focus on the expressions of the subjects and their shapes or features asaposed to their differences. In my camera bag
Necessities? A spare charged battery, a spare empty memory card, some cleaning clothes, filters, and of course your lenses! For a shoot such as this a wide angle lens, 70-300 lens and my everyday trusty 17-85mm. In the side pocket? A bottle of drink, some plasters and cereal bar snack- animals and people are hard work ;)Feedback
When working with animals, having enough time is key! Be patient, keep persisting and have that shutter speed up high!
