Rutland water a great place to come not only for its amazing country side walks but some brilliant photo opps. watch the video on the youtube channel.
In this video watch as I take on the strong winds that have been hitting the UK over the passed few weeks and try to get some long exposures of the 1820 built Normanton Church.
keep an eye on some of the slide show images at the end of the film as I replace the blur from some of the moving bushes to give a still feel to the photographs. Thanks again Chris.

Behind The Lens

Location

This Image was take on one of my many little photography adventures. I don't like to head to far from my home city of Leicestershire and just love to fined interesting places to photograph. This is a beautiful little church in Rutland Leicestershire a little over an hours drive from my house

Time

The image was take in the late morning and the wind was blowing hard that day, The thing is I always take my Gopro with me and like to document the days I shoot with a small video. Its great to look back on some of my adventures and think, what crazy situation have I gotten myself into.

Lighting

I feel I got lucky with the light on this day as you can see the clouds are making a giant diffuser from the sunlight and giving no hard shadows to the picture. I do hate to say lucky as you have to be there to get the shot and I would have made the photograph with or with out the cloud, but it has help with the over all capture.

Equipment

I used my Canon 5D Mark III And the Canon 17-40mm L Lens hand held with a low perspective.

Inspiration

I have seen many pictures of Normanton Church and I have took many over the years to, if you ever get to go your creative imagination will inspire you to capture it in the best way you can. You will not want to leave until you have exhausted every angle possible.

Editing

Now I'm a big lover of Photoshop and for me their is nothing better then sitting down at the computer with a nice hot cup of tea ready to pop in the memory cards and start editing the images. With this image I open it up in Adobe camera raw and open up the shadows adding a little clarity to the photograph. Then with one click to take away any chromatic aberration you can get from the 17-40mm L lens. Open up in photoshop with a little noise reduction then a quick high pass to add sharpening. And finished with a home made preset in the amazing Nik Collection.

In my camera bag

For landscape photography I always have the Canon 5D Mark III along with 17-40mm L lens, the Lee filter system the big stopper and little stopper ND Grads My tripod Gopro hero 4 silver for document to youtube, and the most important bit of kit a bottle of water.

Feedback

If I could give you any advice about taking this image I would have to say take you time look at every angle and perspective, think about your foreground middle and background interests but be very careful not to clutter the image with to much. if I had shot at waste height or higher this picture would have failed in so many ways. The boat is now a giant plant pot and was full of colourful flowers which would have distracted the viewer from the two main subjects in the image.
